The death of the phone book
It used to be said that there would always be at least two books found in any Louisiana home, a bible and a phone book. This is about to change as AT&T in Louisiana have followed the lead set by other US states and decided to stop sending out telephone books unless specifically requested.
Prior to 2011, some US phone companies had toyed with the notion of reducing the paper phone book mountain by offering an “opt out” option. Then on 19th May 2011 the mayor of San Francisco passed an “opt in only” law in respect of Yellow Pages books, signalling the beginning of the end for phone books....
